Dibrugarh Police Destroy Seized Heroin and Cannabis in Major Drug Crackdown

In a continued effort to tackle drug trafficking, the Dibrugarh Police, with court approval, recently destroyed a significant amount of heroin and cannabis.

DIBRUGARH: In a continued effort to tackle drug trafficking, the Dibrugarh Police, with court approval, recently destroyed a significant amount of heroin and cannabis. Over the past six months, 45 cases resulted in the seizure of 725 grams of heroin and 47 packets of cannabis across different locations in the district.

The confiscated drugs were incinerated at the Assam Medical College and Hospital’s incinerator, under the oversight of the District Drugs Disposal Committee.

The destruction was overseen by the Superintendent of Police, the Superintendent of AMCH, and a magistrate, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related issues in the area.

Meanwhile, the Dhekiajuli Police arrested two individuals and seized 5.77 kg of suspected ganja. The operation, conducted late last night, led to the arrest of Paul Basumatary and Gidon Swargiary from Kaarmanguri Village, under the Mazbat Police Station in Udalguri District.

Police sources confirmed that the accused were caught with the contraband during the raid. The seized drugs have been sent for further testing, and a case has been filed against the suspects under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

In another joint operation, the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police seized heroin and Methamphetamine tablets worth over Rs 7.64 crore and arrested a drug smuggler. The operation took place on Tuesday night in Zokhawthar, located in the Champhai district, near the Myanmar border.

Authorities recovered 2.276 kg of heroin and Methamphetamine tablets from the arrested individual, identified as 34-year-old Lalruatzauva from Champhai district. The seizure is part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region. The drugs, highly addictive, were estimated to be worth over Rs 7.64 crore.
