DIBRUGARH: In a significant step towards securing the welfare of media professionals, a delegation from the Dibrugarh Press Club personally submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the CM Secretariat on Saturday,  highlighting key issues faced by working journalists across Assam. The memorandum, signed by Manash Jyoti Dutta (President), Anil Kumar Poddar (Vice-President), and Ripunjoy Das (General Secretary), urged the state government to address long-pending demands including development of journalist housing colonies in key towns including Dibrugarh, establishment of guest houses for Assam-based journalists in metro cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Guwahati, restoration of travel concessions on Indian Railways and ASTC withdrawn during the COVID-19 pandemic, launch of a dedicated health insurance scheme for journalists, and enhancement of the monthly journalist pension from Rs 8,000 to Rs 25,000.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma responded positively and sympathetically, assuring the delegation that he would ask Information and Public Relations Minister Pijush Hazarika to look into the matter seriously and take steps in the best possible way. A copy of the memorandum was also personally submitted to Guardian Minister of Dibrugarh, Jogen Mohan, who has already initiated preliminary steps in response to the concerns raised by the press club.
