DOOMDOOMA: Sadou Assam Lekhika Samaroh Samiti (SALSS), Doomdooma Sakha held a discussion on poetry and felicitation at its venue at Bir Raghab Moran Path, Rupaisiding on Friday with President Dibyalata Deka in the chair.
Former Secretary Sangeeta Baruah Deka explained the objectives of the meeting after which its member Jinu Gohain presented a song to make the atmosphere lively.
The meeting felicitated Kironmoyee Hazarika Baruah, its member and Vice-President, SALSS, for receiving the Kharanon Barthakur Commemorative Good Organizer’s award, 2025, with a cheleng chador, memento, and citation. This award is given every year in memory of Kharanon Barthakur who was the husband of Padma Shri Dr Sheela Barthakur (now deceased), the founder President of SALSS.
The meeting then felicitated eminent poet Dr Aruna Gogoi Baruah for being honoured by the ‘Akash’ organization of Axam Xahitya Xabha as senior litterateur of Tinsukia district with a cheleng chador and a memento.
In their acceptance speeches, both the awardees urged the newcomers to make the SALSS, Doomdooma Sakha more dynamic.
Hereinafter, Dr Mrinal Kumar Gogoi, Associate Professor, Assamese department, Digboi College, was welcomed with a cheleng chadar and a memento. In his speech, Dr Gogoi said that the response of the general reader to his poems was honey to his ears. “I was so excited when a poem of mine got published in the ‘Prantik’ magazine in the 90s,” he said. He highlighted a comparative picture of the evolution of poetry from the prehistoric era to the present age from an analytical perspective and inspired the audience to think newly about poetry.
Former President poet Indu Dutta Ujir spoke about Dr Mrinal Kumar Gogoi’s poems. The invited guests, Jonali Saikia Deka and Madhurima Baruah, recited their self-composed poems.
The meeting concluded with the performance of Assam Sangeet ,‘O Mur Apunar Desh,’ after Sangeeta Barua Deka offered a vote of thanks.
