DHUBRI: A broad meeting with four sub-committees’ members formed under “Doh Shaher, Ek Rupayan” (Ten Cities Development Programme) led by Assam Government’s Department of Housing and Urban Affairs ( DoHUA) was held in DC conference hall which was chaired by Additional District Commissioner, Santana Bora on Tuesday.
Assam government launched the ‘Ten Cities Development Concept’ for sustainable urban development, which included Dhubri along with nine other cities Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Nagaon, Tezpur, North-Lakhimpur, Bongaigaon, Silchar, Karimganj and Haflong/Diphu.
Chairman of Dhubri Municipal Board, Dr. Debamoy Sanyal, who is also chairman of all the four sub-committees formed for planning, put forward suggestions as where and what is required to be done immediately to improve civics amenities like roads, drainage, cleanliness, street light, tourism, heritage walk among the others.
While briefing in the meeting, official of Janagrah (an NGO), Rituparna Nath said that the NGO recently signed MoU with Assam Government to initiate the developing activities in the ten cities converging the departments already working and implementing various schemes.
Addressing the meeting, Chairman of Dhubri Municipal Board, Dr. Debamoy Sanyal clarified that to implement the programme Assam government did not sanction any fund to the committe, but with the City Action Plan would create pressure on the departments which are already implementing or would take various schemes in the cities in future earmarked by the government.
“ City Action Plan aims to enhance urban infrastructure, promote balanced development, and create economic opportunities, emphasizing the state’s commitment to inclusive growth in both urban and rural areas,” Dr. Sanyal added.
Additional District Commissioner, Santana Bora also addressed the meeting and said that members all the four sub-committees would again meet by February 24 and chalk out next plan of action.
