Retired Principal of Tangla College Dr. Keshab Chandra Dutta who was also a veteran journalist, a writer, a referee and a sportsman, an advocate and a teacher of repute of Tangla breathed his last at 7.55 pm on July 9 at his residence at Tangla. He was 76.
He at the request of the then Editor of ‘The Sentinel’ Dhirendra Nath Bezbarua in 1983 joined as the correspondent of ‘The Sentinel’ at Tangla since its foundation and rendered his yeoman service as a journalist in entire areas of Tangla, Khairabari, Dimakuchi, Bhergaon, Kalaigaon even in Mangaldai.
Born to the family of the Mouzadar of Dalgaon Mouza in Darrang district Bali Ram Dutta and Brindawali Dutta on March 31 of 1947 as the second son, late Keshab Chandra Dutta completed his school education from Dalgaon High School and Pre University and graduation in Arts from Cotton College. Obtaining his Masters Degree in Political Science, M Phil in Folklore and Ph D in Political Science from Guwahati University, he completed his LLB from Tezpur and BT (B Ed) from Goalpara BT College with first class first position.
Initially he started his career as a teacher in Bechimari High School for three months and joined Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel High School at Koupati for three years. Later he joined as a teacher in Dalgaon High School for fifteen years. In 1981, he joined Tangla College as a lecturer and later became the Head of the Department and took his retirement as the Principal of Tangla College in 2006. Following his retirement, he joined as a member of Udalguri Bar Association and earned high reputation as a successful lawyer.
In 1976, Keshab Chandra Dutta tied his nuptial knot with Nirupama Dutta. He was the founder president of Tangla Moffussil Correspondents Association, Founder Principal of Harisinga Junior College, founder of Dalgaon Pragati Sangha, Vice President of Udalguri Sports Association and a part time lecturer of Mangaldai B Ed College for thirteen years. As a recognized referee of Assam Football Association and Assam Volleyball Association, he was a known referee in the football and volleyball matches not only of Darrang and Udalguri, but also in other major tournaments of the state.
On April 7 of 2017, Mangaldai Media Circle while celebrating the centenary celebration of the birth anniversary of the departed Freedom Fighter Pani Ram Das- the first journalist of Darrang, had conferred felicitation to this eminent journalist.
He has left behind his wife Nirupama Dutta, only son Shankar Jyoti Dutta, daughter-in-law Meenakshi Ghosh Dutta, daughter Himadri Dutta Medhi and son-in-law Dhruba Medhi. His mortal remains has been consigned in to flames as per the vedic rituals at the public crematorium on the bank of river Nonoi in presence of a large number of mourners, relatives and well wishers this morning.
On this auspicious day of ‘Adya Shraddha’, I offer my last salute to this ever young journalist, teacher, lawyer and a sportsman Keshab Chandra Dutta who was ever familiar to all for his moustache and the athletic body. May the Almighty grant eternal peace to the departed pious soul. ‘Om Shanti’
