DEMOW: Dr Surajit Giri, an anaesthesiologist and a snakebite specialist of Demow Model Hospital–cum-CHC, had written his resignation letter on July 11 to the Joint Director of Health, Sivasagar, requesting termination of his contractual post with effect from August 11. Dr Giri sent the resignation after a Magistrate who had come to the hospital situated at Konwar Dihingia, called for Dr Giri who was in the OT room at that time. Dr Giri met the Magistrate in the office of the hospital’s superintendent and enquired if Dr Giri does not do night shifts.
Dr Giri, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, wrote that the magistrate questioning his duties felt like an insult to him, leaving him embarrassed and ashamed, due to which he resigned. Netizens reacted strongly after the post and requested him to withdraw his resignation. Dr Giri said that following the post, the Health Minister and the MD of NHM called him, and appealed to him to withdraw his resignation for the greater interest of the public.
