GOLAGHAT: The Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (AATSA) emphasized the transformative power of education for the Tea Community at a felicitation ceremony held at the Municipal Board Office Hall in Golaghat town on Saturday. The event, organized by the Assam Oriya Mahasabha, Golaghat District Committee, aimed to honour meritorious students from the community and inspire them toward greater societal contributions. Jagadish Boraik, general secretary of AATSA, graced the occasion as a guest of honour and delivered a powerful message stressing that no scheme can truly uplift the Tea Community without the foundation of proper education. “The light of education illuminates and determines the direction of a nation,” Boraik stated, urging the younger generation to develop holistically and contribute meaningfully to society.
Boraik criticized the tendency of some successful individuals—be it doctors, engineers, bureaucrats, or ministers—to distance themselves from their roots after achieving personal success. He labelled this as “extremely unfortunate” and called upon the youth of the Tea Community to cultivate a sense of responsibility toward their society and the nation at large. He further highlighted that while economic demands such as wage increases and land rights are important, they alone cannot ensure the holistic progress of the community. According to him, the Assamese nation expects the Tea Community to rise through intellectual strength and societal development rather than through street protests.
He also acknowledged the government’s recent initiatives like banking access and infrastructure improvements, calling them revolutionary steps for the community. The event was chaired by Chalegram Tanti, president of the Golaghat District Committee of Assam Oriya Mahasabha, and conducted by its secretary, Champak Nayak. Among the prominent speakers was Dr. Putul Chandra Saikia, former Principal of Golaghat Devaraj Roy College, who addressed the students with words of encouragement. Senior journalist and central committee member of the Axam Xahitya Xabha, Diganta Kumar Bhuyan, also participated as a guest of honour and delivered an inspiring speech to the attendees.
Other notable figures present at the ceremony included Asim Tanti, central vice-president of Assam Oriya Mahasabha, along with Biswanath Tanti, Paresh Tanti, and Dudhanath Singh Rajput, all of whom expressed their support and best wishes to the students.
The ceremony served not only as a recognition of academic excellence but also as a clarion call to the new generation of the Tea Community to rise with knowledge, vision, and a commitment to societal uplift.
