PATHSALA: Tension is rising in Assam’s Manas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, after three wild elephants were recently found dead. Now, the Manas Jeep Safari Association has made a shocking claim that five more elephants were killed by poachers about a week ago, taking the total to eight elephant deaths within a month. These serious claims were made during a press meet held on Sunday at the main entrance of the national park.

Bubul Nath, Secretary of the Jeep Safari Association, said that the three dead elephants found recently are only part of the story. He said that five more elephants were killed earlier by poachers in the dense forest areas near Sahebjhar and Falangsy camps.

The association raised questions on why jeep safaris in the Panbari Range were stopped for the past week. They believe this may have given poachers a chance to kill the elephants without being noticed. The Jeep Safari Association urged the government to step in quickly and take strong action to protect the elephants and the rich wildlife of Manas before more harm is done.
