MANGALDAI: Dr. Chandi Charan Bhattacharya, an eminent academician, retired HoD of the department of Geology of Guwahati University, and a native of Niz Sarabari village in Darrang district, passed away on Wednesday evening at the residence of his son, Dr. Mrinmoy Bhattacharya, in Chicago, USA, due to old age ailments. He was 92.

Born in 1933 to Tarini Charan Bhattacharya and Khiteswari Bhattacharya, Dr. Bhattacharya completed his graduation from Cotton College, post-graduation from Banaras Hindu University, and PhD from Glasgow University, UK.

He retired from Gauhati University in 1993. He then joined Nagaland Central University as a guest professor to start the geology programme at the university. He has left behind his only son, a daughter, and a host of relatives.
