MANGALDAI: The final phase of relocating families illegally encroaching in the Garukhuti Agricultural Project, under the Sipajhar Revenue Circle in Darrang district, was completed on Wednesday. Under the supervision of District Commissioner Parag Kumar Kakaty, the Darrang District Administration successfully completed this relocation process peacefully. The relocation of families illegally residing in the project since 2022-23, has been ongoing, and due to the relentless efforts of the district administration, it has been successfully concluded on Wednesday.
A total of 2,166 families were relocated from the project since 2022-23, with 1,167 families relocated in 2022-23, 700 families in 2024, and 299 families in 2025. As a result of these relocations, a total of 7,853 bighas of land have been freed up for the Gorukhuti Agricultural Project.
Notably, the final phase of the relocation process began on May 23. Under the direct supervision of District Commissioner Parag Kumar Kakaty along with the officials of Sipajhar co-district, the final phase of the relocation was efficiently managed. The authorities of the Garukhuti Agricultural Project and the officials of Sipajhar Co-District played a significant role in this process. The District Commissioner was present at the Garukhuti Agricultural Project to oversee the entire relocation process. He expressed gratitude to all those involved for successfully completing the task.
