First randomization of EVM and VVPAT done in Chirang district

BONGAIGAON/KOKRAJHAR: The first randomization of EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) and VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trial) for allocation to polling stations of 31- Sidli (ST) and 33- Bijni Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) under Chirang district was carried out on Tuesday at the NIC of the Deputy Commissioner's office at Kajalgaon.

The process was done by the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Chirang, Gautam Talukdar in the presence of representatives of political parties and other officials involved in election process of both Chirang and Bijni election districts.

The randomization process was carried out through EVM Management System (EMS) software after which all EVMs, which include Control Unit (CU), Ballot Unit (BU) and VVPAT machines were allotted to 31- Sidli (ST) LAC and 33- Bijni LAC of the district and subsequently as per guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI), a set of first randomization of EVM and VVPAT sheet was handed over to all the representatives of political parties.

Based on the requirement and availability, the randomization was done for 392 EVMs and 421 VVPATs for 31- Sidli (ST) LAC and 280 EVMs and 301 VVPATs for 33- Bijni LAC with 20 percent reserved for both constituencies.

The randomization process is a part of the EC's guidelines to prevent any possible misuse or procedural lapses in use of EVM and VVPAT during the upcoming election.

Later, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Talukdar briefed the representatives of political parties regarding publication of declaration of the criminal antecedents by contesting candidates and political parties in the print and electronic media.
