Flood situation worsens in Nalbari district

NALBARI: Incessant rains and heavy floods have taken a devastating turn in Nalbari district. The water levels of the Marapagladia and Burhadia rivers are flowing above the danger level. Many families in the district were left homeless and thousands of people are under house arrest.

A school boy and a man over the age of 50 died on Friday. The floods are ravaging this year in the district. There are several places in the area where the dams have collapsed and flooded a large area. The flood victims have taken to higher places, school buildings etc. for shelter. The Marapagladia River is flowing north of Bali. There are more than 40 villages flooded due to rupture of dams in several places. The floods also affected more than 40,000 people in West Nalbari. There are more than 1000 residents in the area. The floods have taken a devouring turn in the area. West Nalbari accounting Rupiabathan, Sahpur, Gamarimuri, Nadla, Amani, Pakhura, Shukekuchi, Purni, Kulbil, Napara, Pahlangpara are still under flood. The floods have also taken a devastating turn in Banekuchi, Phulguri and Barbhag. More than hundred villages have been affected by the floods. District administration has blocked the road from Ghagrapar to Tamulpur.

Several villages have been affected by the floods in greater East Nalbari area. Villages like Bhutkatra, Piplia, Small Chenikuchi, Dihjari, Deharkatra Chataibari, Bhairveri, Barakhat, Ujikhat, Goalbil, Jataluk have been affected badly. The floods also tore through the Dhamadhama-Tamulpur road. Dhamdhama-Rangia. The floods have also cut off the roads to the public works department.
