DHUBRI: The foundation of the welcome gate of Dhubri Gurudwara Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib ji, at Beparipatty of Gauripur, was formally laid on Wednesday.

The welcome gate is to be constructed with the fund of Rs. 5 crore sanctioned by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma when he had visited the Gurudwara last year.

The foundation stone was laid by highly revered Sant Baba Ghola Singh and Jathedar Baba Gurnam Singh of Kar Seva Sahrali Sahib, Punjab accompanied by Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Anbamuthan MP and a host of office bearers of Sikh Pratinidhi Board Eastern Zone (SPBEZ), including its president, Sardar Mehar Singh.

Earlier, in the meeting held near the site of the proposed gate under the auspices of SPBEZ, Deputy Commissioner Anbamuthan MP assured all cooperation from the administration in construction of the welcome gate as it is a long-pending desire of the board but due to no objection from various department and other issues, the project was delayed.

"But instruction of the Chief Minister, the process moved on and foundation stone was laid today. Hope it will be completed within the stipulated time frame and we will invite him for the inauguration of the welcome gate soon," Ambamuthan MP said.

Later talking to The Sentinel, president of SPBEZ, Sardar Mehar Singh informed that they had started utilizing the first installment of fund Rs. 2 crore out of Rs. 5 crore sanctioned with the construction of welcome gate.

"With this Rs. 2 crore fund, work of construction of the welcome gate, installation of two lifts in the Gurudwara buildings, extension of Darbar Hall and beautification of Gurudwara will be done," Singh further informed.
