MANGALDAI: Synchronizing with the World Zoonosis Day celebration, animal loving NGO ‘Furry Friends’ in association with the State Veterinary Hospital, Mangaldai on Saturday organised a free anti-rabies vaccination camp for the street as well as pet dogs. The day long camp organised here at Ward No 7 witnessed vaccination of a total of thirty dogs. This was followed by an awareness meeting where veterinarian Dr Ajay Bania, Dr Rakesh Sarma and NGO volunteer Anulekha Sarma explained how the date July 6 came into the effect of celebrating as the World Zoonosis Day when Louis Pasteur first used an anti rabies vaccine in the year 1885. The speakers also discussed on spreading of zoonotic diseases between animals and human being and the ways to prevent them. They also threw light on the main message of this year’s celebration including responsible behaviour towards pet and wild animals , strengthening the coordination between treating of the humans and animals, protecting the inhabitants of the animals and others. Volunteers of NGO ‘Furry Friends’ and staff of the State Veterinary Hospital, Mangaldai also offered cooperation for successful completion of the day long camp.
