DIBRUGARH: A five-member delegation from the French Embassy today took stock of the Dibrugarh Town Protection (DTP) drain and other drains of Dibrugarh and held a discussion with the Dibrugarh district administration to chalk out a plan for the persistent urban flooding in the city. The delegation from the French Embassy arrived in Dibrugarh on Wednesday to assess and explore solutions for the city's persistent urban flooding and waterlogging issues.

The visit, which includes meetings with key stakeholders, site inspections, and discussions on innovative flood management strategies, aims to enhance Dibrugarh’s resilience against flooding.

During these discussions, officials presented Dibrugarh’s flood history, current mitigation measures, and ongoing projects. The French delegation also explored potential areas of collaboration and discussed challenges related to flood preparedness and urban planning.

The discussions focussed on creating vibrant public spaces such as promenades, cycling tracks, and floating decks while incorporating flood mitigation strategies like rainwater storage systems.

Speaking to The Sentinel, Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation Mayor Dr Saikat Patra said, "A five-member delegation from the French Embassy arrived in Dibrugarh on Wednesday to assess and explore solutions for urban flooding in the city. They will fund the project through their Embassy and for support they will take our help. Two months ago, through a video-conferencing they talked with us and showed interest in funding for solving urban flooding in Dibrugarh."

"They have visited all the drains of Dibrugarh, including DTP, and also went to Bogibeel to see the outlet of the drain. They have assessed everything and are very much interested in doing the project. We are very happy for the interest shown by the French Embassy to solve the problem of urban flooding in Dibrugarh," Patra said.
