G20 Summit: Seminar on 'Peace Building and Reconciliation' held in Dhakuakhana College

Dhakuakhana College, in collaboration with Lakhimpur district administration, organized a seminar on ‘Peace Building and Reconciliation: Ushering in an Era of No War’ as a part of G-20, Y-20 Summit pre-events.

LAKHIMPUR: Dhakuakhana College, in collaboration with Lakhimpur district administration, organized a seminar on 'Peace Building and Reconciliation: Ushering in an Era of No War' as a part of G-20, Y-20 Summit pre-events.

The seminar was presided over by Chitra Kumar Konch, Principal-in-charge of the college. The resource persons who took part were, Junuma Sonowal, Assistant Commissioner, Dhakuakhana Civil Administration, Sudarshan Saikia, Assistant Commilssioner (SDO Civil Office), Dhakuakhana Civil Administration, Dr. Pankaj Bora, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department, Political Science. The welcome speech of the seminar was delivered by the Principal in-charge of the college.

Junuma Sonowal spoke on the importance of peace building among various constituents of the society while moving towards an Era of No War. She also spoke on various aspects of reconciliation as a way to the peace building for the building of a sustainable society. In continuation of the presentation, Sudarshan Saikia explained with a Bell Diagram the emergence of the conflict situation in north-eastern India going through its various stages as gradual rise, peak of the conflict, decline and way ahead.

Describing some of the typologies of the conflicts on Northeast India as demand for sovereignty, ethnic identity, foreign influence, border disputes and illegal immigration, Saikia explained few approaches for effective peace building. Dr. Pankaj Bora opened up his lecture on a note that a heterogeneous outlook should be of priority to mobilize the process of peace building in north-eastern India in a right way.

Referring to veteran journalist MS Prabhakaran, he mentioned that the demands for sovereignty by various identity groups, demand for sixth schedule and demand for caste based reservations are a few burning problems that requires early address in the process of peace building in the region. This was succeeded by an active interaction session between the students present and resource persons. The programme, which was coordinated by Dr. Partha Protim Borthakur, who is the Assistant Professor of the Department of Political Science, was hosted by Srutilekha Barman, the Assistant Professor of the Department of Political Science. The programme was joined by 78 participants, including students and faculties from Dhakuakhana College.

It was followed by a quiz competition held at digital classroom of the college. A total of eight teams of students of the college participated in the competition. The quiz masters of the event were Raja Gohain, MA student of the Department of History, Dibrugarh University and Bhaskar Bhuyan of the Department of History in Dhakuakhana College. The quiz masters were assisted by Jyotishman Das, a student of the Department of Political Science and Manoranjan Das, a student of the Department of History, Dhakuakhana College. The competition was divided into four rounds- G-20, Peace in North-east India, cinema and music and current affairs.
