SILCHAR: Cachar College once again hit the headlines as the Gauhati High Court issued a stay order on the declaration of the result of the interview for the post of the permanent Principal. Justice L Jamir in his order said that the results of the interview for the post of Principal, Cachar College, in terms of the advertisement dated September 27, 2024, would not be declared till the next returnable date. Simanta Bhattacharjee, representative of the Donor Member Ajit Singh in the Governing Body of the College in a writ petition alleged that the ongoing process for the appointment of the permanent Principal had violated prescribed norms. Bhattacharjee pointed his finger at the GB President Prof Parthankar Chowdhury, alleging that the latter violated the norms to appoint Principal as per his whims and prejudice.

The High Court allowed all the respondents to file their respective affidavits-in-opposition within four weeks and till then, the result of the interview would not be declared.

Arguing that only two persons applied for the post of Principal, but according to the norms, number of applicants should at least be three, Simanta Bhattacharjee alleged that the GB president managed to incorporate a third applicant through a back dated application.

Prof Parthankar Chowdhury, on the other hand, strongly refuted the charge, and claimed that no norm had ever been violated. Chowdhury, however, refused to make any comment on the court order, maintaining that he had not received any copy.

Interestingly, Simanta Bhattacharjee, a district Congress leader, representing the Donor Member Ajit Singh in the GB, was recently relinquished from the post on the ground that his term had already expired.
