GMC To Launch Mobile App, Helpline Number For Issues Related To Street Animals

GUWAHATI: The GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) announced that the corporation will soon launch a toll-free phone number and a real-time monitoring mobile application for matters related to street animals.

The helpline number and mobile application will be used mainly in concerns related to street animal issues such as health-related issues, animal habitat and others.

The corporation will be taking the initiative for taking necessary measures for Anti Rabies Vaccination (ABC-ARV) programmes and Animal Birth Control among other related matters associated with stray animals.

The GMC is in the process of arranging laparoscopy machines for the sterilization of the animals residing in the streets. The laparoscopy machines will be helpful in the easy sterilization process and it will also increase the number of sterilization of animals done.

For various animal welfare activities like the organization of camps for animals and to carry out Anti-Rabies vaccination programs, different stakeholders NGOs will be collaborating in due course of time.

A desired online common platform will be formed in association with different NGOs and stakeholders in view of reaching the goal of the planned progamme.

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation organized a meeting with various animal welfare organizations in Guwahati city and discussed the quick and effective implementation of the proposed sterilization process of the street animals.

The meeting was held mainly to discuss issues related to Anti Rabies Vaccination (ABC-ARV) programmes and the decision of launching a mobile app and toll-free number for stray animals were taken in the meeting.

The meeting was attended by District Veterinary Officer Dr, Pradip Medhi and Joint Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty.

GMC informed that it will be taking initiative for more logistic support so that it can address maximum complaints from the general public and act on the issue immediately on receiving the complaint.

In view of strengthening the movement, funds from CRS (Corporate Social Responsibility) will be further explored and initiatives will be drawn from PPP (Private-Public Partnerships).
