Goalpara District Takes Steps to Boost Tourism at Urpad Beel

The Goalpara district administration has introduced special initiatives to boost tourism at Urpad Beel, a major migratory bird haven and freshwater lake.

GOALPARA: The Goalpara district administration has taken special measures to attract tourists to the Urpad beel of Goalpara, a migratory bird haven and one of the major fresh water lakes after the Deepor beel of Guwahati.

After building an attractive paver block road and doing afforestation surrounding the Beel, the Goalpara Zilla Parishad, PHE and Balijana development block with the help of Goalpara district journalists association cum press club undertook a drive on Friday to make the beel surrounding a plastic free area.

The programme was inaugurated by Mriganka Choudhury, CEO, Goalpara Zilla Parishad in presence of Executive engineer of PHE Prakash Haloi, BDO Balijana and the journalists.  “We are implementing department schemes to further enhance the beauty of this large water body measuring about nine hundred hectors to attract more visitors”, said Mriganka Choudhury.

A through cleanliness drive was also arranged with the help of local Samaguri villagers. Davidson Marak, village head, Abdur Rauf, president of journalists association and many other dignitaries were present on Friday programme.
