GOLAGHAT: A cybercrime incident was reported in Golaghat, where a person named Nipen Konwar was duped out of Rs 51,500 through an online scam. This incident came to light when the victim filed an FIR at Golaghat Police Station on Wednesday.

As per information, the scammers created a fake Facebook account in the name of Dr Kajal Saikia, the Chief General Manager of Numaligarh Refinery Limited, and used it to deceive Nipen Konwar, a villager of Barua Gaon of Golaghat district.

The scammers posed as a CRPF officer named Sushil Kumar and claimed that he was being transferred and needed to sell his electronic items, furniture, and other goods at a low price. Nipen Konwar was convinced and transferred a total of Rs 51,500 through online transactions, believing that he would receive the goods.

However, after making the payments, Nipen Konwar realized that he had been scammed and filed a complaint with the police. The incident highlights the growing threat of cybercrime and the need for people to be cautious when dealing with online transactions and unknown individuals on social media.
