GUWAHATI: Two people were arrested by the Assam Police for their alleged involvement in running a fake job racket for government jobs. According to reports, they used to search candidates looking for government jobs and dupe them with fake letters of appointment in leu of huge amounts of money.
They were arrested from Mangaldai near Guwahati in Assam. The names of the accused are said to be Kuhiram Deka and Pinku Barua. Kuhiram Deka is said to be the main person responsible for the fake job racket. He is also a muster-roll employee with the irrigation department of the government of Assam. As per a report, he was arrested previously related to a similar case in 2017 but was later granted bail.
Sudhakar Singh, DCP (East), mentioned that Kuhiram Deka was picked up from the Mangaldai on the night of Tuesday. He was present in a lodge with seven other suspected brokers of the same fake job racket on Sunday with fake appointment letters with them. While Pinku Barua was present outside the lodge.
As per sources, the brokers used to charge amounts between Rs 5,00,000 and Rs 7,00,000 from unsuspecting candidates. Ten fake letters of appointment were also confiscated by the police from their possession.
Pinku Barua is said to be the middleman tasked with searching and contacting aspirants and bringing them to Kuhiram Deka. They were presented before the court, which send them for three-day judicial custody. Two other prime accused in this case named Rafiqul Hussain and Ajijul Rahman are said to be absconding.
The seven accused brokers of the case have been named as Nayan Saikia of Kahilipara in Guwahati, Sirajul Hoque of Mangaldai in Darrang, Jayanta Das of Goalpara, Jayanta Deka of Basistha in Guwahati and Gobinda Choudhury, Nur Islam Ahmed and Pranjal Barman from Nalbari district.
