NAGAON: The State Revenue Minister Keshab Mahanta on Friday disclosed that a total of 129,372 bighas, 3 kathas and 4 lessas of government land in Nagaon district are currently under encroachment.
Responding to a question by Nagaon MLA Rupak Sarma in the Assembly, Mahanta stated that besides government land, 26,413 bighas and 5 lessas of land under the Village Grazing Reserve (VGR) and 1,784 bighas, 1 katha and 14 lessas of land under the Professional Grazing Reserve (PGR) are also under encroachment.
The encroached government land includes 4,525 bighas and 10 lessas in the Nagaon Sadar revenue circle, 15,000 bighas in the Dhing revenue circle, 3,659 bighas, 1 katha and 5 lessas in the Rupahihat revenue circle, 39,000 bighas in the Kaliabor revenue circle, 23,853 bighas and 9 lessas in the Samaguri revenue circle, 23,504 bighas, 4 kathas and 16 lessas in the Kampur revenue circle, and 19,830 bighas, 1 katha and 14 lessas in the Roha revenue circle.
Regarding the PGR land, only 1,784 bighas, 1 katha and 14 lessas in the Roha revenue circle are under encroachment.
The minister also informed that the current government has taken steps to free government land from encroachment and that the administration will continue to conduct eviction drives in the affected areas.
