BISWANATH CHARIALI: The 12 Days of Development programme was launched by the Government of Assam on Friday in Biswanath district with the distributions of Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award of Pragyan Bharati Scheme, Chief Minister’s Special Scheme of Bicycle to class nine students and Anundoram Barooah Cash Award to 9,480 students under the Education Department.
The programme was inaugurated by Ashok Singhal, Minister of Irrigation, Health and Family Welfare, Government of Assam, as the Chief Guest at a special function held at Kamalakanta Kshetra, here.
Inaugurating the programme, Minister Singhal, who is also the Guardian Minister of Biswanath district, addressed the students and said that students should always obey their parents and teachers because they are the ones who have helped the students in shaping them as the human resources of the future country. He urged the students to devote themselves to the struggle to become good citizens of the country in the future. District Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey delivered the welcome address.
In 2024, 1,087 students of the district will receive scooters under Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award of Pragyan Bharati Scheme, 7,842 students of class nine will get bicycles under the Chief Minister’s Special Scheme and under the Anundoram Barooah Cash Award, a total of 551 students will receive cash prizes.
The event was also attended by MLAs Diganta Ghatowal and Pramod Borthakur, Biswanath Superintendent of Police Shubhashish Baruah, Chief Executive Officer Diganta Baishya, Behali Co-District Commissioner Dhruvajyoti Das, Additional District Commissioners Rakesh Deka and Hriday Kumar Das, and others.
