GUWAHATI: A team of officers from the Guwahati Police has traveled to Pune, Maharashtra, to issue a summon to comedian Samay Raina regarding a case linked to vulgar remarks made by fellow YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia during the YouTube show "India's Got Latent," which Raina hosts. The action follows a formal complaint alleging that Raina's show promoted obscenity, which was submitted in Guwahati on Monday.
Five well-known YouTubers and social media influencers are named in the FIR, which was filed by the Guwahati Crime Branch. They are Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, and Samay Raina. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the registration of the case on social media.
Raina, who is currently reported to be in the United States, has a residence in Pune's Balewadi area. The summons instructs him to cooperate with the investigation and appear before the police in Guwahati. The police team also summoned Allahbadia and Chanchlani to present themselves for questioning regarding the controversial remarks made during the show.
Apart from the Guwahati investigation, the Mumbai Police are also investigating the case, based on several complaints against the five YouTubers for their perceived objectionable remarks. The FIR was registered under several sections of the IT Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, among others. Raina has conveyed his willingness to cooperate with the officials to the best of his ability, adding that he has taken down all the concerned videos from his channel.
