DIBRUGARH: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to make history as the first sitting Chief Minister to participate in Republic Day celebrations in Dibrugarh. The Chief Minister, taking note, remarked that the town is adorned in tricolor, with preparations in full swing to mark this significant occasion.

In a post on X, CM Sarma addressed the occasion and said, "Dibrugarh is all set to host the Central Republic Day celebrations for the first time and the town is all decked up in tricolor to celebrate the spirit of the Republic. From being affected by militancy to now hosting full-scale Republic Day celebrations, it has come a long way."

Meanwhile, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya will hoist the national flag at Khanapara in Guwahati, while CM Sarma will lead the celebrations in Dibrugarh.

Last week, the Chief Minister reviewed the arrangements and instructed officials from the General Administration and Police departments to ensure grand and organized Republic Day events, particularly in the newly created co-districts. In Kamrup Metropolitan district, celebrations will take place exclusively in the Dimoria Co-district.

CM Sarma also directed the General Administration Department to allocate funds for the festivities and the Police Administration to manage arrangements for parades and other ceremonial events.

Additionally, he asked the Housing and Urban Affairs Department to organize cleanliness drives statewide. These efforts will involve village heads, voluntary organizations, and local communities to enhance the celebration’s spirit.

As a lead-up to Republic Day, cities like Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and district headquarters will host a special “Road March” on January 25, symbolizing unity and patriotism ahead of the main event.
