'Historical knowledge, social awareness essential to be successful in journalism'

The concluding event of the Silver Jubilee celebration of Narayanpur Press Club of Lakhimpur district was held with a day-long agenda on Monday.

LAKHIMPUR: The concluding event of the Silver Jubilee celebration of Narayanpur Press Club of Lakhimpur district was held with a day-long agenda on Monday. The event was organized at Parag Kumar Das Smriti Bhawan of Narayanpur Press Club.

The agenda of the programme kick-started with the unfurling of the press club flag by president Kumud Saikia while the silver jubilee flag was unfurled by organizing committee president Dr. Sarat Hazarika. On the occasion of the Shilpi Divas, retired teacher Jeevan Hundique lit the earthen lamp in front of the portrait of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala. Narayanpur Press Club founder secretary Chandra Hazarika paid the floral tribute to the cultural icon and the martyrs.

The open session of the event commenced with president Kumud Saikia in the chair under the management of secretary Chandan Saikia. It was inaugurated by Kiran Chandra Sarmah, former journalist-cum-retired professor of Madhavdev University. Bihpuriya MLA Dr. Amiya Kumar Bhuyan graced the occasion as chief guest. The MLA released the 'Bor-Narayanpur', the book of a big volume edited by Chandra Hazarika and Jagat Gogoi, published on the occasion by covering the history of the greater Narayanpur area.

Professor of Madhavdev University, Dr. Goutam Kakati took part in the event as a guest of honour. In his lecture, Dr. Kakati said, "Knowledge about history, awareness on society and social trend are very much essential to go ahead and to be successful in the field of journalism. Journalism is the efficiency of writing talent and the way of reflecting thoughts, making them intelligible to the common masses. It is the way of mass communication for their wellbeing."

In addition to him, Belaguri Xatra Xatradhikar Munindra Narayan Goswami, Badala Padma Ata Xatradhikar Deepjyoti Mahanta delivered lectures in the programme. In the same programme, warm felicitation was given to a total of 30 eminent personalities who made remarkable contributions to Narayanpur area through various fields of their works.

On the other hand, the delegates' session of the Narayanpur Press Club was held on Sunday evening. In the programme, the new executive body of the press club was constituted with Jagat Gogoi as president and Saroj Kumar Neog as secretary for the 2022-23 session.
