DHUBRI: Acting on the direction of Golap Kumar Baniya, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Dhubri Forest Division, a forest department team dismantled an illegal timber sawmill in Bamunigaon, Nayahat area on Saturday. The operation was led by Shahabaz Sultan, in-charge Forest Officer of the Sapatgram Forest Range, and was supported by other forest staff.
The action was initiated following complaints that a group of timber smugglers had been operating an unauthorized sawmill in the region. The smugglers were allegedly involved in the illegal trade of valuable timber, prompting the forest department to launch a crackdown.
During the raid, forest officials seized all timber logs found at the site, including both unsawn logs and processed timber. The sawing machines used in the illegal operation were also confiscated. Local residents have reportedly expressed satisfaction over the forest department’s swift action against the illegal activity.
