GUWAHATI: On the occasion of the 79th year of freedom and unity, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma honoured the sacrifices of countless freedom fighters and conveyed his heartfelt greetings to the citizens for Independence Day 2025.
CM Sarma further paid floral tributes at the martyrs’ memorial in Shraddhanjali Kanan, Guwahati, honouring the countless bravehearts who sacrificed everything for the nation’s freedom, and urged the people of the state to uphold their ideals with peace, progress, and unity. He later addressed the media after paying floral tributes to the martyrs.
Additionally, CM Sarma expresses his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for all his efforts in giving thrust to development efforts in Assam and lists down a host of projects which have been made possible by the Prime Minister.
While delivering the Independence Day address as Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that "We have decided to name the Noonmati-Dighalipukhuri flyover after Maharaj Prithu."
"Under Mission Basundhara, we have given land rights to over 2 lakh people of Assam. Assam's long history – from Charaideo's UNESCO recognition to Assamese and Bangla's classical language status – has brought big recognition to the state," he added.
"We constituted the Satra Commission to chart a roadmap to free our Satras from encroachment. We have been able to free up Satra lands across Assam and preserve their rich heritage," CM Sarma further stated.
