NAZIRA: As part of the 79th Independence Day celebrations, a walking competition was organized for senior citizens in Nazira on Wednesday. The competition was flagged off by Kalyan Jyoti Hazarika, Assistant Commissioner of Nazira co-district.
The event saw the participation of nearly 70 senior citizens, who competed in two categories - men’s and women’s. In the men’s category, Rudra Chetia secured the first position, followed by Pabitra Sharma and Kumud Gogoi in second and third place respectively. Sobharam Gogoi, Uma Konwar, and Jadu Dutta received consolation prizes.
In the women’s category, Yasmin Kar Rajak secured the first position, followed by Anju Sadhanidhar in second place and Deepti Dehingia in third place. Manumati Borgohain Konwar received a consolation prize.
The competition aimed to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyle among senior citizens, and to recognize their contributions to society. The event was a successful celebration of the spirit of Independence Day, and the participants were awarded prizes and recognition for their achievements.
