LAKHIMPUR: "Each language has its own unique beauty and history. Language is the principal vehicle through which the living heritage of a community can be preserved for the future generation. Commitment is the important thing to ensure amelioration of the mother language. Such commitment and devotion is required to keep the Assamese language alive," stated Nilim Kumar, the noted poet of the State in Lakhimpur on Tuesday. The poet said so while taking part in a cordial interactive session organized by the North Lakhimpur unit of the Sodou Asom Kabi Sanmilan.
Notably, the Uttar Lakhimpur Xahitya Xabha Bhavan became illuminated with the aesthetic beauty of literary discussion on Tuesday and the environment of the same resonated with the melodious words of poetry during the interactive session with the poet. A host of literary figures, practitioners, emerging writers took part in the programme. It commenced with litterateur Bharat Rajkhowa in the chair under the management of North Lakhimpur unit Kabi Sanmilan secretary Pankaj Sabhapandit. President Dr. Ramesh Kumar Kakati inaugurated the programme, wherein Nilim Kumar made various noteworthy statements about his poems, other Assamese poems and about the Assamese language.
About the future of the Assamese language, when asked, the poet said, "It is not such that anyone studying in English medium cannot render literary practices in the Assamese language. Similarly, no one should think that English cannot be learnt by pursuing education through Assamese medium. Everyone's commitment and devotion to the mother language can ameliorate it." Sharing his thoughts on poetry, the poet further said, "There is no hard and fast definition of poetry. To write good poem or to be a good poet, the true being of poetry must be understood."
In the event, Nilim Kumar recited several self-selected poems while poets Hafiza Begum Torali Gharphalia, Dipti Bhuyan, Bhagyalakhi Deka, Dipali Chetia Mazumder recited their favorite poems composed by Nilim Kumar. On the other hand, Rini Borah Saikia, Pratishruti Deka, Diganta Deka, Monu Nath, Tirtha Das recited their self-composed poems. Journalist Ranjit Kakati recited Kanchan Janghar Buranji, the famous evergreen poem composed by Rupkonwar Jyoti Prashad Agarwala.
Lakhimpur district Kabi Sanmilan president Dr. Jagadish Goswami and poet-novelist Jiten Baruah delivered speech by appreciating the creations of Nilim Kumar while emerging singer Samadrita Sarmah presented a song in the colourful programme.
