LAKHIMPUR: Sakhi One Stop Centre on Thursday celebrated the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office, Lakhimpur in Lakhimpur Girls' College.
The programme organized on this occasion was attended as guests of honour by Padma Shri Dr. Uddhab Kumar Bhorali, Lakhimpur Girls' College Principal Dr. Surajit Bhuyan, Porinita Dihingia and other faculties of the educational institution. This year the motto of the event was 'Control Violence and Save Women'. Sakhi One Stop Centre, under the aegis of Dikrong Valley Environment & Rural Development Society (DVERDS), organized the programme to create awareness among the students of the Lakhimpur Girls' College about violence against women. The meeting started with the felicitation of the guests. Wasima Chaman explained the objectives of the programme laying stress on women's awareness against violence. Geetanjali Saikia Dutta delivered her speech explaining the significance of the event. Dr. Uddhab Bharali, Dr. Surajit Bhuyan and Parinita Dihingia delivered their speech highlighting various forms of violence against women and different types of crimes against them.
