TINSUKIA: At the backdrop of the unfortunate Umrangso coal mining tragedy, the Tinsukia District Committee of the International Human Rights Council (IHRC) demanded a complete shutdown of illegal coal mining, transportation, and trade in the Margherita area in particular and the declaration of the entire coal-rich region of Margherita as a prohibited zone.
While welcoming the Assam Government’s announcement to provide a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of both the deceased and the missing workers, Secretary of the Tinsukia District Committee L.
