PALASBARI: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Jalukbari Police on Sunday arrested a drug peddler near the railway tracks close to Gate No. 1 in Maligaon. The arrest was made during a raid based on specific intelligence inputs received by the police.

The accused has been identified as Dipak Das (22), a resident of Kalapani near the Goshala area under the jurisdiction of the Maligaon Police Outpost. Police recovered several containers filled with narcotic substances, a mobile phone, and cash amounting to Rs 8,000 from his possession.

According to police sources, Das was involved in the illegal drug trade in the Jalukbari area for a considerable period. A case has been registered against him, and further investigation was underway.
