JORHAT: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday assured Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi that the long-pending stretch of National Highway 37 in Assam, running from Jorhat to Jhanji, would be completed by February 2025.
The assurance came during the Lok Sabha's Question Hour in response to a query by Gogoi, who has been persistently advocating for the highway's completion. The progress was highlighted by Gadkari, who said, "I held 10-12 meetings regarding this road. Delays occurred due to various reasons, but the work is now progressing at full pace. The Jorhat-Jhanji section will be completed by February 2025."
Gogoi represents the Jorhat constituency. He has been vocal about the serious inconveniences caused by the highway's poor state and the delay in its construction. He had met Gadkari in the past and had also written to him, requesting completion of the project in time.
Expressing public frustration, Gogoi stated that there have been many accidents and chronic traffic jams on this stretch of unfinished road. On social media site X, he noted: "This stretch has plagued issues with frequent accidents and long jams in traffic owing to the deplorable state. The work has gone on for years."
Further elaborating, the Congress MP insisted on the fact that the lengthened delays have affected a section of commuters and local populace that depends on the highway.
