KHERONI: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, graced two significant events on Sunday as the chief guest. On Sunday afternoon, Ronghang unveiled a statue of the esteemed Karbi folklorist, writer, and cultural reformer, Ru Bonglong Terang, at the Karbi Lammet Amei-KLA (Karbi Xahitya Xabha) office in Diphu. The ceremony, chaired by Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA) General Secretary Liladhar Teron and other office bearers, marked a significant tribute to Terang’s enduring legacy.
Before the unveiling, CEM Ronghang paid homage to Ru Bonglong Terang’s portrait, seeking divine blessings and guidance. Addressing the gathering, Ronghang highlighted the importance of preserving Terang’s contributions to Karbi society, urging the youth to follow his legacy. “Although I didn’t know Ru Bonglong Terang personally, his writings reflect his immense dedication to our culture and traditions,” Ronghang remarked.
Ru Bonglong Terang was a pivotal figure in promoting and preserving Karbi heritage through his literary works. His contributions earned him the prestigious Karbi Lamkuru Sarpo Award in 1973 from Karbi Lammet Amei, along with numerous other accolades.
The statue, crafted by renowned sculptor Diben Timung, took six months to complete under the direction of KLA officials. The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including Member of Legislative Assembly Bidya Sing Engleng (Diphu LAC) and Padma Shree Dhaneswar Engti, among others, who gathered to honour Terang’s profound impact on Karbi culture. After attending the statue unveiling programme, he participated in the T10 Polling Station-wise Cricket Tournament Final and a felicitation ceremony for the successful High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary (HS) candidates of 2025.
The event was organized in loving memory of Late Basapi Teronpi, the mother of CEM Tuliram Ronghang. The T-10 Cricket Tournament Final showcased local talent and sportsmanship, captivating the audience with thrilling performances. Following the match, the felicitation ceremony honoured the academic achievements of HSLC and HS students who excelled in their 2025 examinations.
