MORIGAON: Dimoria College (Autonomous), Khetri, has organized a comprehensive Induction Programme from August 2 to 5 to welcome the newly-admitted FYUGP 1st Semester students of the Arts and Science streams under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The programme aims to orient students with the academic structure, institutional values, and learning opportunities provided by the college as they embark on their undergraduate journey.
The event commenced with a warm welcome speech by Dr Mahananda Borah, Principal of Dimoria College, who welcomed the students and faculty members. In his address, Dr Borah highlighted the transformative nature of the NEP 2020 and how the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) offers flexibility, interdisciplinarity, and academic depth. He emphasized the institution’s commitment to nurturing young learners through quality education, research exposure, and skill development. Dr Borah encouraged students to engage actively with their curriculum, participate in seminars, and develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. He also stressed the importance of maintaining discipline, fostering mutual respect, and contributing positively to campus life.
Prof BN Goswami, Professor of Practice at Cotton University and Professor of Excellence at Gauhati University, delivered an inspiring keynote lecture. He emphasized the urgent need to promote scientific thinking, academic excellence, and a strong research culture in Indian higher education. Drawing comparisons with global academic trends in countries like China and the USA, Prof Goswami pointed out the importance of upgrading laboratory infrastructure, ensuring funding support for young faculty members, and creating an environment conducive to research and innovation. He strongly advocated for regular faculty seminars, student-led academic activities, and interdisciplinary research discussions to sustain a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment. He motivated students to set high aspirational goals and view themselves as future contributors to the national and global knowledge economy.
The second session was conducted by Prof Parag Phukon, Professor, Department of Geological Sciences, Gauhati University, and Member Secretary, RSSCC, Assam. His talk focused on giving students a comprehensive overview of the FYUGP curriculum and the examination and evaluation system under NEP 2020. He explained the structure of major, minor, and multidisciplinary courses, alongside the inclusion of skill enhancement, value-added courses, internships, and research components. He discussed the role of continuous internal assessments, project work, and holistic evaluation in the new academic model. Prof Phukon also presented the broader vision of NEP 2020, giving students an understanding of how the policy aligns with global academic standards and opens new pathways for innovation, employability, and lifelong learning.
The students were encouraged to take ownership of their learning and were provided with a detailed perspective on the evolving education scenario under NEP 2020. The Induction Programme served as a valuable platform to inspire, inform, and engage the students, setting the tone for a vibrant and purpose-driven undergraduate experience at Dimoria College.
