MANGALDAI: Appreciating the initiative of the state government for celebration Mahaveer Chilarai Divas with a detailed program throughout the state, Mangaldai Media Circle (MMC) -an organization of the media persons based at the district headquarters town of Darrang, has made an appeal before the state government to reconstruct the historic Gohain Kamal Ali and to preserve the remnants of its stretches. The MMC has also urged the state government to organize a detailed program in the National Capital Territory (NCT) at New Delhi on the valiant Army Commander Mahaveer Chilarai who was ranked as one of three greatest Generals of the world alongwith Chatrapati Shivaji and Napoleon Bonaparte.
Talking to ‘The Sentinel’, Secretary of MMC Mayukh Goswami said that the valour and military strategy of Mahaveer Chilarai who introduced the naval warfare for the first time in India prior to Mughal Emperor Akbar requires national honour and recognition. The state government earlier in a very praiseworthy initiative had organized a detailed program in the NCT on the life and works of the great General Lachit Borphukan. It is a high time that the state government should also take Mahaveer Chilarai in the national level.
Secretary of MMC Mayukh Goswami also expressed strong resentment over the dilapidated and non existent condition of the historic Gohain Kamal Ali. “The Gohain Kamal Ali is not only of historic significance and importance, but it also reflects the extraordinary military strategy of Mahaveer Chilarai who ordered his brother Gohain Kamal to construct the 350 mile long road to connect the capital of Koch Kingdom Coochbehar to Agomoni in Dhubri and Narayanpur in Lakhimpur district which was completed in 1547,” added Mayukh Goswami. He also said that this historic road is almost non existent now while some stretches are found in Sarbhog in Barpeta district, Jamugurihat in Sonitpur district and at Rajgarh in Lakhimpur district while it also touched Nalkhamara village on the north of Kalaigaon in Udalguri district.
