MANGALDAI: In a bid to compensate for the loss of ornamental trees felled during the widening and reconstruction of LNB Road, the Territorial Road Division of Mangaldai, Dalgaon, and Sipajhar has initiated a planned ornamental tree plantation drive.
The ongoing Rs 5-crore project, taken up under the SOPD scheme, covers a 1.2 km stretch and includes construction of drain-cum-pavements on both sides of the road. The initiative is being led by Parliamentarian Dilip Saikia and legislator Basanta Das. Coinciding with World Environment Day, the plantation drive featured saplings of cannonball, Bokul, Ejar, and Jacaranda trees, adding vibrant greenery to the urban landscape.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from legislator Basanta Das, Deputy Commissioner Parag Kumar Kakaty, Civic Body Chairperson Nirmali Devi Sarma, District BJP President Mukunda Deka, Vice President Pratap Bordoloi, Executive Engineer Kushal Deka, and several prominent citizens, including Rajib Kumar Deka and Kulen Hazarika. Media representatives Bhargab Kumar Das and Homen Kakati were also present. In addition, Kasturi Shishu Griha and Mangaldai Commerce College held daylong programmes to commemorate the day.
