DHEKIAJULI: A terrifying incident unfolded in Ward No. 1 of Dhekiajuli, known as the Martyr town, when a massive eucalyptus tree collapsed, causing serious injury to a woman and extensive damage to two homes on Monday.

The tree, located within the premises of the Dhekiajuli Water Supply Scheme, came crashing down suddenly, severely damaging the residences of Saidur Rahman Ansari and Raqib Ansari. During the incident, Arju Rahman Ansari, a woman from the affected family, sustained critical injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the woman was in the bathroom of an RCC building at the time, bathing, when the giant tree branch fell directly onto the structure. The impact caused bricks and debris to fall, injuring her hands, back, and chest. Miraculously, her life was spared.

She was immediately rushed to Dhekiajuli Monbar Nath Civil Hospital for emergency medical attention. Her condition is reported to be serious.

Family members alleged that despite repeated complaints to the forest department and relevant authorities on the potential danger posed by the towering eucalyptus tree, no preventive measures were taken. They held the inaction of the authorities responsible for this avoidable tragedy.

Additionally, in light of the extensive property damage, the affected families submitted applications to the Dhekiajuli Municipal Board, forest department, and Dhekiajuli revenue circle officer, demanding prompt compensation and accountability.
