ORANG: A new chapter in the history of Mazbat began on Friday with the formal constitution of the town’s first-ever 13-member municipal board, marking a significant milestone in its transition towards organised urban development.

The historic oath-taking ceremony was held at the premises of the old Mazbat hospital, where Shyam Chundi, MCLA of the Pasnoi Serfang Constituency, was sworn in as the first chairman of the newly constituted Majbat Municipal Board.

The ceremony, held at around noon, was conducted under the supervision of Bibhah Bordoloi, Circle Officer of Majbat Revenue Circle, while Shashi Mohan Das, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Udalguri Sadar, administered the oath of office.

Jyotish Kalita, a young leader, took the oath as vice-chairman, while other members, including Maheshwar Das and Archana Deka, also assumed office. The newly inducted members pledged to work collectively for the development of Mazbat and to transform the emerging town into a modern and well-planned urban centre.

The ceremony was attended by Assam Transport Minister Charan Boro and BTC Executive Member Moon Moon Brahma, who addressed the gathering and congratulated the newly constituted municipal board. They emphasised the importance of collective efforts and effective civic administration in ensuring sustainable development.
