CHARAIDEO: A joint meeting was held in Charaideo district to resolve the border dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. State industries and Culture Minister Bimal Bora on Thursday attended a meeting of the Joint Regional Committee formed to resolve the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border issue at the meeting room of the Charaideo District Commissioner's Office. Assam Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Yogen Mohan and a delegation led by Arunachal Pradesh Science and Technology Minister Hanchun Nandam were also present to discuss the issue.
The joint co-ordination committee talked about various problems and dispute that arises between the border habitants of both the States now and then. The delegations of the both States agreed on some issues but some critical issues like providing water and electricity didn't get resolved.
Accusations were raised many times that the Arunachal government helped the Arunachali people to build village in Assam territory and provided them with facilities like water supply, electricity and assembly polling stations. Clashes arises now and then and there is always a tense situation in Assam-Arunachal border.
During the discussion, Minister Bora said that without a permanent solution to the border issue, the overall development of the people living in the border areas is not possible. He said that the border issue between the two States is going to be resolved under the direct supervision of the Prime Minister and Home Minister of India and the efforts of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The meeting was attended by Minister Yogen Mohan, Sonari MLA Dharmeshwar Konwar, Kanubari MLA GD Wangchu, Charideo District Commissioner Paul Barua and Longding District Commissioner Bani Lego.
The meeting started with a welcome speech by District Commissioner of Charaideo Paul Baroua. The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioners of Charideo District Jabed Arman and Abhijit Gogoi, Superintendent of Police Yuvraj Singh, stated a press release.
