Minister Pijush Hazarika assures permanent solution to flood and erosion problem in BTC

KOKRAJHAR: State Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika on Thursday visited Kokrajhar and held discussion with the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTC, Pramod Boro, senior officers of the council Secretariat and officials of the department concerned regarding solution to the flood and erosion problem in the region.

Hazarika visited the ongoing construction site of Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital at Besorgaon in Kokrajhar before holding meeting with the department officials in BTC. He took stock of ongoing construction of Kokrajhar Medical College which is progressing fast. He also visited the erosion site by the River Gaurang passing near the Kokrajhar Medical College, Besorgaon to take protection measures.

Talking to media persons after the meeting with the leaders of BTR and officials of the department concerned, Hazarika said that flood and erosion was a perennial problem of the State and BTR was not an exception. He said that the Union and State governments had been taking proactive measure to solve the problem of perennial flood and erosion in the State. He also said that he had asked the department concerned of BTR to assess the real threat caused by the rivers and total length damaged by the rivers for immediate measures.

Hazarika said that the government had taken initiative to overcome the flood and erosion problem from Kokrajhar to Jonai in Dhemaji district in a scientific way. He also said that the government had taken steps for long-term solution of flood and erosion problem in BTR.

The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTC, Pramod Boro said that Water Resources Minister came to Kokrajhar and visited some erosion sites to explore a way for solution of the perennial problems of flood and erosion. He said that his government was looking for a permanent solution to the flood and erosion problem through adoption of long-term scientific measures. He hoped that the present government of Assam would take all necessary measures to solve the flood and erosion problems.

The meeting with the Water Resources Minister was also attended by the BTR EMs-Reo Reowa Narzihary, Ukhil Mashahary, Arup Kr. Dey, Gautam Das, Dharrma Narayan Das, Rakesh Brahma, Dr. Nilut Swargiary, MLA Lawrence Islary, Principal Secretary of BTR, Shantanu P. Gotmare and other officials.
