Miscreants ‘attack’ AASU, AJYCP activists during 11-hour bandh

DHEKIAJULI: Miscreants attacked the AASU, AJYCP members of the Dhekiajuli unit during the 11-hour bandh on Tuesday.

According to the information received, a group of Dhekiajuli unit of AASU and AJYCP members arrived at Majhibasti near Dhekiajuli town at around 1 PM on Tuesday. A group of miscreants was present on the spot with sharp weapons when the student activists reached the Majhibasti center. The student activists asked the shopkeepers to shut down their shops in support of the bandh. Immediately, the miscreants present there started attacking the bandh supporters.

During the attack, former AASU leader of Dhekiajuli, Dipak Talukdar, Shankar Das, AASU Dhekiajuli unit president, and Manikan Das were severely injured. Later, local people came out and on seeing them, the miscreants fled. The injured student leaders were later admitted to a local hospital.

After hearing the news, more than 60 AASU and AJYCP activists rushed to the spot for retaliation but Dhekiajuli Police prevented them. In the evening, Dhekiajuli Police arrested two youths from the area. They were identified as Atul Mazumdar and Subhash Biswas. The incident created a tense situation in Dhekiajuli town and more than 300 people gheraoed the Dhekiajuli Police Station in the evening.

Sonitpur SP Sanjay Krishna and Sabhyasachi Kashyap, the Circle Officer of Dhekiajuli Revenue circle, reached Dhekiajuli Police Station immediately after hearing the news and they held talks with AASU and AJYCP leaders to defuse the tension. The NESO bandh, meanwhile, evoked total response in the Dhekiajuli revenue circle area.
