Moran bodies organize ‘Rati Bihu’ to showcase cultural heritage in Doomdooma

The AASU general secretary praised the organizers for replicating a traditional Moran village at Doomdooma Town Field to showcase their rich cultural heritage.

DOOMDOOMA: Doomdooma Regional Committees of Asom Moran Sabha (AMS), All Assam Moran Students’ Union (AMSU), Moran Jatiya Mohila Parishad (MJMP) and Sadou Moran Kola-Sanskriti Vikash Kendra (SMKSVK), in association with the people of Doomdooma, organized ‘Rati Bihu’ at Doomdooma Town Field on Friday to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the tribe. ‘Rati Bihu’ is an interesting and exceptional tradition of the Moran community of Assam, which they celebrate as their spring festival.

The programme of the ‘Rati Bihu’ got underway in the morning with the hoisting of flags of the organizing organizations by their respective presidents followed by the smriti tarpan initiated by the general secretaries of the organizations. The main programme i. e. ‘Rati Bihu’ held at night was formally inaugurated by Naba Moran, president of All Moran Students’ Union (AMSU). Prior to that, the souvenir published on this occasion under the editorship of Tapan Moran was inaugurated by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) general secretary Shankarjyoti Baruah.

Speaking on this occasion, the AASU general secretary praised the organizers for replicating a traditional Moran village at Doomdooma Town Field to showcase their rich cultural heritage. He also said that it was duty of the new generation to stick to their roots or else they would lose their identity.

The inaugural programme was also attended by the local MP Pradan Baruah, Doomdooma MLA Rupesh Gowala, the Deo Bhakat of Disamdeb Satra Bimal (Babul) Dahotia, president of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Palash Changmai, assistant secretary Surajit Moran, and several other prominent persons of Doomdooma Circle and the Moran community.

Over 1,000 Bihuwas and dancers from across the Tinsukia district participated in the ‘Rati Bihu’ following all traditional and religious customs. Thousands of people watched this traditional Bihu dance of the Moran tribe all through the night.
