TINSUKIA: The Moran Autonomous Council which has been functioning undemocratically since October 2020 without holding election, created discontentment among Moran community that demanded immediate dissolution.
Shrikumar Dohutia, renowned academician and intellectual and also former president/general secretary/advisor of Assam Moran Sabha has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam through the District Commissioner Tinsukia. It stated that the 6-member ad-hoc committee of Executive Council which was forwarded by the Moran Apex bodies was initially formed for 6 months from October 2020 and was supposed to hold election in democratic way after the expiry of 6 months but it is still functioning even after 3 years with same set of members depriving the democratic rights of thousands of Moran people, stated Dohutia. Dohutia, a resident of Tongona Bazar under Kakopathar PS in Tinsukia district exhorted the Chief Minister to dissolve the ad-hoc committee of Moran Autonomous Council and to hold necessary election while thrusting the responsibility to district administration till the formation of a new council through democratic election. He opined to hold the franchise as per present Panchayat Model-party less independent election. He also has sought an inquiry to find out the reasons for delay in preparation of voter list and constituencies against a small community with less than 1.5 lakh population.
In his memo, Dohutia expressed concern over the suspected possession of Moran caste certificate in addition to other certificates who claim to be Moran of other districts ostensibly do not belong originally to Tinsukia district. He demanded an official verification and necessary action.
