NAGAON: A Nagaon-based family’s selfless act of donating the organs of their 18-year-old son, who passed away prematurely, garnered widespread appreciation and recognition across Assam.
The family’s generosity gave a new lease of life to two individuals who were struggling to survive due to kidney failure at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
Upon learning about the premature death, a team of expert physicians from GMCH, with the Chief Minister’s permission, approached the family and requested them to donate their son’s kidneys.
Initially, the family was hesitant but agreed eventually. The medical team then collected the kidneys and transported them to GMCH through a green corridor. The kidneys were successfully transplanted into two patients on Monday by the team of expert doctors, saving their lives.
Following the successful surgery, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma instructed Nagaon District Commissioner Debashish Sarma to express his gratitude and appreciation to the bereaved family.
The District Commissioner visited the family’s cremation site on Monday morning to convey the Chief Minister’s message and thank the family for their noble act.
District Commissioner Sarma praised the family’s generosity and called upon others to follow their example, stating that such acts can help save many lives in society.
