BOKAKHAT: Social media and certain sections of the press have been circulating harsh criticisms and speculative content about Namrata Bora, a law student from Assam who died under suspicious circumstances in Nongpoh, Meghalaya. Namrata was the elder daughter of Ramen Kumar Bora from Bachapathar village in the Komargaon area. Her father expressed deep concern over the spread of unwanted and insensitive messages on social media regarding his deceased daughter and the family.

The family was especially distressed by the controversial remarks being made not only about Namrata but also about her family, which it said were deeply hurtful to the surviving siblings. A citizen meeting held on Saturday urged all social media users and media outlets to refrain from such disgraceful activities. The gathering called on the media professionals to protect the social dignity and honour of the grieving family, rather than spreading baseless or sensationalized content.

Following the directive of the Chief Minister to investigate Namrata Bora’s death, Assam Police have become more proactive. An operation was underway targeting Mriganka Baruah of Furkating in Golaghat, who is believed to be closely involved in the case. Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Police were also continuing their investigation under the supervision of high-ranking officials.

Namrata’s post-mortem was conducted in Meghalaya. However, the report has not yet been released. The family, along with various organizations and groups, continues to await the findings of the autopsy report.
