GUWAHATI: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has successfully completed the construction of a crucial Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Bridge No. 114/A, replacing Level Crossing Gate No. ST - 35 at Kampur station on the Guwahati - Lumding section.

The necessity for construction of a ROB in lieu of Level Crossing gate No. ST – 35 has arisen due to traffic congestion in roads as well as the rise in train movement due to the recently completed double line in Guwahati – Lumding section. The project was completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 64 crores.

The newly constructed ROB was inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on 30th March, 2025 and is now open for public use. As a result, LC Gate No. ST-35, which had a Traffic Vehicle Unit (TVU) of 6.70 lakh, has been permanently closed, removing a significant bottleneck and enhancing train operations in the region.

The ROB has a total length of 803 meters, including a viaduct length of 505 meters and a bow string girder span of 42 meters. With a carriageway width of 7.5 meters, it ensures smooth vehicular movement. This vital infrastructure will provide seamless road connectivity for local commuters, enabling faster and safer travel.

Additionally, the closure of the busy level crossing will enhance rail safety, minimize delays and improve the overall efficiency of train operations along this crucial route.

Elimination of Level Crossing gates will enhance safety of train operations and will ensure safer movement of road traffic and passersby through the ROB. Northeast Frontier Railway remains committed to infrastructure development for seamless transportation, passenger convenience and safety enhancement across the region. The commissioning of this ROB will significantly benefit the residents of Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts.
