NIPER Guwahati Hosts Five-Day Workshop on Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis for Northeast Healthcare Professionals

A five-day workshop on Systematic Review and Meta-analysis for healthcare professionals and researchers in Northeast India was inaugurated at NIPER Guwahati under Kamrup district of Assam.

Rangia: A five-day workshop on Systematic Review and Meta-analysis for healthcare professionals and researchers in Northeast India was inaugurated on Monday at NIPER Guwahati near Changsari under Kamrup district of Assam. The workshop aims to develop the skills among healthcare professionals and researchers in Northeast India in “Evidence Synthesis” by training them in conducting well-designed systematic reviews and meta-analysis. The workshop is organized by the Department of Pharmacy Practice (Technical Resource Centre for the Centre for Evidence-based Guidelines) and sponsored by the Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India (Under the SARANSH Programme).

SARANSH (SystemAtic Reviews And Networking Support in Health) is an initiative of the DHR for regional capacity building in systematic reviews in India and to formulate comprehensive evidence-based guidelines for the country in various health areas. NIPER Guwahati is the only institute identified from northeast India under this programme.

Prof. S. Tamilvanan, Director in charge, NIPER Guwahati, Prof. Sanjay K. Banerjee, Associate Dean (Academics), NIPER Guwahati were presented during the inauguration. Both  highlighted the contribution of the Department of Pharmacy Practice in developing evidence-based guidelines and uplifting the patient care management in northeast India.

Earlier, Dr. Krishna Undela, Principal Investigator for the SARANSH Programme at NIPER Guwahati, welcomed the gathering and briefed on the objectives of the workshop. He mentioned that this workshop on systematic review and meta-analysis pave a path for capacity building in the area of evidence synthesis in northeast India and improve the contribution of healthcare professionals and researchers of northeast India in developing comprehensive evidence-based guidelines for the country. He further informed that, Department of Pharmacy Practice, NIPER Guwahati was identified as one of the Technical Resource Centre for the Centre for Evidence-based Guidelines under the DHR.

This centre is established to systematically synthesize and evaluate evidence, with the objective of developing and promoting evidence-based guidelines and enhancing the adoption of evidence-based practices in healthcare. The  workshop will feature a number of experts from government, academia and industry speaking on topics related to the systematic review and meta-analysis.
