TINSUKIA: A nutrition education and intervention programme for vulnerable age groups, especially pregnant, lactating, non-pregnant non-lactating women and pre-school children of Mising community was held at Amlokhi Matikhula LP School Dhemaji on Monday. The programme also highlighted practical demonstration of micronutrient-rich food sources available locally with the promotion of homestead kitchen gardens.
The programme organized by Yashmin Nongrum, a research scholar of AAU, also included assessment of nutritional status via anthropometry diet survey, household dietary diversity, clinical signs and symptoms. Addressing the women of the locality she also emphasized nutritional deficiencies, exclusive breast feeding etc. Nutrition games like 'My plate for the day' and thali competition were played on the occasion apart from live demonstration of hand washing. The programme aroused keen interest among the participants.
